the return of Blake

Toronto, 2004.11.09

Earlier this week I was contacted by a former colleague from my days in Australia. He's an Englishman who wants a crack at life in Montreal. I can't say I blame him - I hear excellent things about the city.

He had questions about how he might go about getting into the country. I told him I had few answers. But as I have an uncle who made a career in Immigration, I thought I'd ask the uncle for some advice. Now it's been some time since that uncle was in the game, but I thought it was worth a shot. It turns out that it's tricky. Unlikely, even.

In our correspondence, though, my uncle told me that his daughter - one of my grand total of two cousins (by blood) - is here in Toronto, now. She's taking a fine arts program at Ryerson! After a bit of phone tag, she and I have agreed to meet for lunch of Thursday.

rand()m quote

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
