"across the road"

Toronto, 2004.11.27

Tonight, Tracey and I had a really fine evening out. Her boss, in an unprecedented move, told her that she and I should "go somewhere nice" this weekend, and expense it to him. So, on Friday I scouted some of the many restaurants on Mt. Pleasant Avenue, and selected a place. It has the odd name of "Across the Road", and it's situated on the east side of Mt. Pleasant.

Tonight we had a really excellent time there. It's got a great atmosphere, being nicely appointed with unobnoxious art and having just the right size. I had a sliced "vodka smoked" salmon as an appetizer, and a big cut of sirloin that came with a bean-and-spinach salad. Despite the portions, I finished every delicious scrap.

We chatted with the proprieter and our waiter. It seems that the two of them have been working together for 18 years, in different restaurants. They are both 'doing what they love', they say, though the waiter joked that his wife occasionally suggests that he just move in, since he spends so much time there.

In November in Toronto, sometimes you have to have this kind of night.

rand()m quote

I really didn't foresee the Internet. But then, neither did the computer industry. Not that that tells us very much of course - the computer industry didn't even foresee that the century was going to end.
