always something...

Tokyo, 2008.03.04

My grandfather liked to say, "there's always something to keep you humble."

I don't know if it's the lack of sleep or what, but I've made a couple of dumb errors recently. For instance, wandering around "taking photos" for a couple of days with no film in the camera. Or scanning two rolls of film only to realize after the fact that the effing scanner had reset the resolution to something unacceptably low, and that I was scanning colour film as black & white regardless.

As I say, maybe it's the lack of sleep. Or maybe it's the aging. I've now been on this rock 37 years. I think I'm around the same age as Homer Simpson. I'm certainly middle aged.... But I guess it beats the alternative.

I think natural selection must have greatly rewarded the ability to reassure oneself in a crisis with complete bullshit.
