smells & memory

Tokyo, 2008.04.08

We've got this new 'all natural' shampoo. It took me two days to figure out from where I knew its curiously chemical scent.

It turns out that it's the foamy soap we used at Westech back in the early 90's. And it wasn't soap that we used for cleaning, but for filling a two-storey ex-oil-drum.

The drum was used to contain the sound of the testing we were doing (driving explosions down the length of a metre-wide gas pipe). We'd fill the drum with soap bubbles to cut down the sound!

Looking back, I'm not sure why we didn't just go with concentric rings of cinder blocks or some similar baffling, but hey, it's served to provide me with this flashback.

rand()m quote

For a long time I was very bitter that the people who controlled the means of anybody ever hearing my songs were never gonna play them. They only favored music that I specifically and particularly hated, and I wanted them dead. Suddenly, there was another avenue. I started hearing my stuff coming out of bars and then it started to happen little by little — a movie song here or a TV ad there.
