One thing I realized during our early expeditions with the child: carrying a tripod doesn't mix with carrying child stuff.

So today I decided to replace my tripod with something much lighter. Given that in most of the places I go these days there's something man-made at hand (or at least a skinny tree or two), I figure one of these flexible Joby tripod analogues should stand in rather well for my traditional tripod.



Seen here, it's supporting a Minolta X-700 and a 50mm f1/.7 that my brother gave me last year.

At 250g, it's certainly lighter than the 2-3kg Manfrotto. The Manfrotto's had a good run. Maybe I'll pick it up again when the kid's big enough not to need diaper bags. Oooh, by which point he'll qualify as caddy or at least photographer's assistant.
