an old hobby renewed

Tokyo, 2009.10.18

It's been several years since I last maintained an aquarium in the home. Hell, it's been a decade since I lived in one spot long enough!

Today we bought the aquarium bits that we'd been pricing over the previous few weeks. The local aquarium store, as previously noted, is a bit of an oddball, open from noon to 22:00 and frequented by a surprising number of young fellows on motorbikes who drop in but don't seem to need aquarium supplies. Front operation or no, they seem to have some good stuff and the staff seem to know what they're talking about.

This aquarium's gone in by our front door. You're not supposed to position an aquarium in a high-traffic area, but it's just the three of us so there's not a lot of traffic. Also, it was one of the few places that was at once strong enough and out of harm's way (i.e. Kenny's reach).

our new aquarium

Ostensibly, the thing is here to help Kenny to learn and enjoy animals. But it's also an attractive addition to the place.

We kill the cows to make jackets out of them, and then we kill each other for the jackets we made out of the cows.
