preparing for China

We're going to China! Time to prepare.
A friend gave me the Chinese text which he claims explains my allergy to wheat. I intend to use it at restaurants and so on. The text he gave me reads:
"我对小麦有敏感，不能吃。
请问这含有小麦吗？"
We'll see how it goes.
It took me two weeks to get my visa from the Chinese embassy. So I wrote up the process for anyone else who has to do the same.
Really, it's sad that we're still in an era of visa requirements at all. A Chinese friend tells me that she has to get a visa every time she goes anywhere! As for me, my visa application took me longer than the total time I'll be in China for the two visits we've got coming up.
