language and sex

Tokyo, 2010.02.08

Tonight I was offered sex in two neighbourhoods.

It's interesting how groups operating in different languages deal with sex. For the Nigerian fellow in Roppongi, it was all about "coming to see his club" and the "beautiful ladies" who I'd meet. I've similarly been offered to meet the someone's "sister" (lots of fellows with a sister in Akasaka and Kabukicho, it seems). All terribly discreet, you know. Only in English....

The Japanese approach is a bit more direct. When I was heading home in Gotanda a Japanese woman walked up to me on the street and said, "マッサジ?セクス?"—"massage? sex?" Yup, a slight difference in approach.

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.
