a break from the heat

Tokyo, 2010.07.30

Finally we've had a break from the heat. I don't know how long it will last, but for the past two days I've worked w/o AC.

The "feels like" forty degree weather is just too much. And we've had so much wind this year—a real change from normal Summer weather in the city. But the whole year has been unusual, weather-wise. Snow in April, and far too cool a Spring all 'round. And we're still getting rain well past the end of the usual rainy season. At least there'll be no shortage of drinking water this year.

With many of the pieces in place for our quest for funding for Caritas, I spent part of the day studying Japanese. I really enjoy decoding this bizarre language, even if I've (ably) proven that I have no mind for it whatever.

Three good things that happened today:
1. learned how to say, "In case of ... do this." in Japanese.
2. learned how to say things like "Where shall I put this?" and "Why don't you..."
3. got the bills paid without too much pain at the bank
