hick town driving

St. Catharines, 2010.11.20

On my way out the door this morning I glanced into a neighbour's truck and saw a beer can in the cup holder.

St. Catharines is a run down city that's been cruising slowly into oblivion since the car manufacturing jobs floated off for greener pastures twenty years ago. Nowadays it's pretty much a University town and as such revolves around things like catering to the partying that the students do. But .. I kinda wish it wasn't quite as bad as drunk driving being a way of life. My wife and son will be walking these streets in a few weeks.

It was a Budweiser, naturally.

Hi Mike, It's not all doom and gloom.

Nope, not at all. Downtown aside, it's a pleasant enough place.

Been really busy, just catching up. The "Urban Redneck" has been a part of the St. Catharines diaspora since at least 1987. Remember the Golden Rock Cafe? The police raids every Friday night to chase the Bikers through my backyard on Bond Street... Hoping things are working out for you. Rich

Wow, Rich... Don't remember that Cafe but it doesn't sound like I must have missed much. Also, I suspect that we under-appreciate the police. I know that living abroad has certainly taught me qhat a great job the local variety does.
