elevator chat

Toronto, 2011.02.18

One thing about being back in a land where you have basic fluency. You understand idle chatter.

In the elevator this afternoon, one woman said to her friend, "Ooo, he's got big feet."

"Just how you like 'em," says her friend without missing a beat.

Of course, understanding is not the same as having the wit to respond.

rand()m quote

A civilization is a heritage of beliefs, customs, and knowledge slowly accumulated in the course of centuries, elements difficult at times to justify by logic, but justifying themselves as paths when they lead somewhere, since they open up for man his inner distance.
-Antoine de Saint-Exupery
