MEC to the rescue

Last Thursday, my bike lock smashed into many pieces quite unexpectedly. Today, MEC gave me a refund.

I didn't have the lock, and I didn't have my receipt, but I did have the ridiculous set of five spare keys that came with the lock, so they gave me a store credit. That's more than I'd expected, actually, as I had merely wanted to, in the words of the famous Monty Python skit, "register a complaint".

It was the crossbar on the "Magnum" brand lock that I'd bought at Mountain Equipment Co-op simply fell off the "U" part of the lock and smashed to pieces on the sidewalk. I couldn't reassemble the pieces, couldn't get the key back in to open it properly and put the broken remnants back on the "U", couldn't really do anything but toss it into the recycling bin. Which I did.

This isn't the first time I've had happy dealings with MEC's customer support, but it's the last time I'll go anywhere near "Magnum"'s lousy locks.
