I am not a cop

Toronto, 2011.07.15

Today two fellows sharing a joint hid the thing from me as I approached on my bike—taken for a policeman again!

It happens every now and then. People doing something see the stern lines in my long face, or the see my height, and they stop what they're doing. I've even seen kids on skateboards abandon a skate park after a couple of glances at me. Ah well, it could be worse—there seem to be guys who can't set foot out doors without attracting police attention. ;^)

After work today I met with Geoff and Mariko for dinner at a nice restaurant north of Yonge and Eglinton. I've already forgotten the name of the place but it served damn good food and happily for a bit of a tony place it was participating in something called "Summerlicious" that brought the price down a bit. From "Young and Eligible" I tried following my old commute path and headed through the Mount Pleasant cemetery then the Moore Ravine. The only snag: the cemetery was actually closed except for the one entrance by which I passed in (where I met the smokers). Both of the first two exits I tried were locked up, causing me to add a good ten-fifteen minutes of drifting around plaintively making the call of the open cemetery gate in hopes of attracting one.

The weather has been just perfect for the past few days. Let it not be said that Canadians cannot do anything but complain about the weather—some of us recognize the good thing when we see it.

rand()m quote

One day you will take a fork in the road, and you're going to have to make a decision about which direction you want to go. If you go one way, you can be somebody. You will have to make compromises and you will have to turn your back on your friends. But you will be a member of the club and you will get promoted and get good assignments. Or you can go the other way and you can do something [...] for yourself. If you decide to do something, you may not get promoted and get good assignments and you certainly will not be a favorite of your superiors. But you won't have to compromise yourself. To be somebody or to do something. In life there is often a roll call. That's when you have to make a decision. To be or to do.
