photo scavenger hunt

In 2003 I belonged to a photography group that met once a month. It was arrange via a web site called meetup.com. A good-sized group generally turned up, and we'd share some photos for commentary and talk about things photographic. We ranged from newbies to pros, retirees to young 'professionals', and are pretty evenly mixed as far as the male-female ratio.

The July meeting was fun. We met at the Second Cup on Victoria St., just south of the Ryerson campus. It was well lit, not too crowded, and served our purposes.

Some of us had kicked around the idea of putting together a 'scavenger hunt', such as the one I found in a pamphlet put out by the Lion's Gate Camera Club in Vancouver. I put together a list of words (one+ for each letter of the alphabet). The concept is to find 26 shots that incorporate the 26 concepts in the list. On a single roll of 36 exposure film or the equivalent number of digital shots.

Some of the others found the full-on thing a little daunting, so at that meeting we agreed to all do 'Reach', and one word of our choosing.

I eventually did them all. Here's the list.

rand()m quote

Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
