now we're a family (again)

Toronto, 2014.04.04

I left a silent apartment this morning, as has been the norm these past four weeks. The difference, there were three sleeping people in it. After their time away, the family is back but following a sleepless night where the children were up and yammering the entire time, all was at last quiet.

Plenty to be thankful for, these days. The family may be jetlagged, but they're healthy and seem happy. We live in a comfortable home, in a city far from strife. We've got a stable income, and I'm even doing some really interesting work to earn it. The Boy is doing very well in school, reading above his level and quite adept at effectively everything he puts his hand to. Emma can string together small sentence fragments (in Japanese) and understands complex questions. Hooray.

I think natural selection must have greatly rewarded the ability to reassure oneself in a crisis with complete bullshit.
