goodbye, 2014

Toronto, 2014.12.24

Well, 2014, you're effectively done - and with all the VUCA* I reckon it's best to be ready for anything.

VUCA is an acronym I learned this year: volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. It really summed up the times very well, with the world's growing conflict, the financial unease, and social unrest unusually lasting until the snow flies. I really don't know what to expect from the years ahead except: more.

Three good things that happened this year:

  1. Finished a master's degree that was interesting and relevant.
  2. Learned to stop worrying and just settle down. We've committed to Toronto after years of uncertainty (see; VUCA).
  3. Had a hum-dinger of a work year, while Mari started to focus her plans, and the kids grew like weeds. The Boy can basically read now, in two languages!

(In which I leave the final word to someone else.)

There is no greater fault than ambition, no greater curse than discontentment, and no greater sin than greed. The one who is contented with contentment shall always be contented.
