meeting in a discrete place

Toronto, 2015.05.05

I met a friend for drinks tonight at the pub under the Strathcona Hotel. It's a bit of a perfunctory setting, as if the hotel decided they needed a pub, but didn't have a suitable place to build one. Windowless, unadorned, and furnished with a hodge-podge of styles, it did however stand out in two ways: 1. The food was good and came quickly. 2. The service overall was quite good.

Still, it felt like a reasonable place to plan treachery.

In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnation without government permission.
